6th November 2016 Windsurfing: Bradfield Wind Direction: NW Wind Stength: NW Surf / Sea State: river chop Air Temperature: 8 Sea Temperature: Weather: cloudy Max Speed: 28.18 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 12.41 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Morning - Bike **** sunny The forecast looked pretty grim with rain showers but we woke to blue skies, a bit breezy but a lovely morning and with no windsurfing until later as low water Mag and I heated up some pastries, made a flask, got the bikes out and headed down to the prom. It was fairly quiet and not too cold, then onto The Dip to our favourite spot by the River Deben at the Ferry where we had our hot Almond Croissants:) Then onto the jetty for a quick look before going back along the road past the golf course to Ferry Lane leading to The Grove. We biked through the woods where my chain broke again, this time I could mend it as we had some spare links even if I got covered in oil! Then home for a boil of porridge and check the weather, it looked breezy enough to sail so I loaded the trailer and headed to Bradfield. Afternoon - windsurf *** cloudy I was first to arrive by the River Stour at Bradfield, the narrow lane down is full of potholes but the farmer has left an area to park in his field :) It didn't look windy from the car park but nearing the river with my gauge the chilly wind hit you with 25 kts registering I decided to rig my 6.5 on the 282. Then local sailor Jason turned up going for his 6 on a 120lt. As it was cooler than yesterday and the sun had disappeared I went for my full winter Gull wet suit and was toasty all session apart from my hands with gloves being needed today. I was first out on the water and was flying but only about half way across the river which turned out to be the story of the session. I had several runs from Essex to Suffolk but floundered the second half of the crossing most times but had a few flat out runs back running down the swells getting over 28 kts, 30 kts was on the cards if only the wind played ball but it just got even more gusty and the then the rain came. The wind eased off so we all packed up me and David Coles from Felixstowe, local Jason Powell and a sailor from West Mersea. So not too bad a session and worth the 25 mile drive round. |
